"Every Community needs
a
full-service traditional studio with ballet,
tap, and jazz, classes for all ages, and yearly recitals.
Summit
School of Dance (now Summit Dance Shoppe) (763-553-1870,
www.summitdanceshoppe.com) is the Twin Cities' sterling example. Famous
graduates: Some have
attended Juilliard, and others have stayed here, including Colleen
McClellan Ueland, Megan McClellan, and Brian Sostek."
Press
Release 02/04/2007
Summit School of Dance
and
The Hedberg Family have purchased the Dance
Shoppe Building and School. Summit took ownership on January 31, 2007
and will move into their new facility in July 07.
Summit School of Dance
has
been owned and operated by Judy Hedberg for
50 years and was joined 20 years ago by her daughters, Jenny Roth and
Missy Goers. Hedberg says, “I am thrilled at the opportunity
to
combine
two nationally recognized and award winning programs.” The
name
of the
new Studio will be Summit Dance Shoppe.
Summit is a traditional
competition studio providing instruction in
tap, jazz and ballet. Summit also offers a pre-professional program,
the Summit Invitational, which supports the growth and development of
the dancer desiring a career in dance. Linda Muir-Finney,
Summit’s
Ballet Program Director, says that “The studio works directly
with the
area high schools to facilitate early release and independent study
credit for this unusually comprehensive program. This past summer, four
of Summit’s invitational students were selected for
Juilliard’s summer
dance program. Muir-Finney was selected this year by The Outstanding
American Teacher’s Organization in New York, as a recipient
of
the
National Honor Roll Award. This award was established to provide
positive recognition to educators who have been identified by their
students as having had the greatest influence on their life.
Muir-Finney will remain as the director of ballet at Summit Dance
Shoppe.
Co-owner Melissa Goers
explains the decision to purchase The Dance
Shoppe as, “A great opportunity for our family. Not only do
we
now have
a top of the line facility, we are combining two amazing programs. All
of our students will benefit from this move.” Co-owner
Jennifer
Roth
adds, “It is an exciting time. We can’t wait to see
what
the future
will bring.”
